SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON MERIT EQUITY REVIEW
INTERIM REPORT
To: The Santa Cruz Division of the Academic Senate
Resolution: That the charge of the Special Committee on Merit Equity Review be extended to 31 December 1998.
Explanation: At its meeting of February 26, 1997, the Academic Senate constituted the Special Committee on Merit Equity Review to "review whether there is evidence that inequities exist in rank and step for faculty with comparable length of service and time since degree." The Special Committee was appointed in late Fall quarter, 1997 and met on December 18 to develop a plan of action, a strategy, and to determine the data needed for this task. David Card, a Professor of Economics from UC Berkeley and a non-voting member of the committee, will be performing the actual data analysis.
The Special Committee was originally slated to report its findings at the Winter 1998 Senate meeting, however due to its late start, the committee is requesting that it be allowed to extend its term to 31 December 1998.
Respectfully submitted:
