SPECIAL SENATE COMMITTEE ON MERIT EQUITY REVIEW
2000-2001 Annual Report
To the Academic Senate, Santa Cruz Division:
In the fall, 2000 meeting of the Academic Senate, the Special Committee presented it’s finding on possible differences in salary related to gender and ethnicity. The senate members present endorsed the two resolutions attached to the report: (1) to set up a “Merit Equity Review Process” and (2) to authorize the Special Committee on Merit Equity Review to work with senate committees and the administration to develop a format for the Review.
During the remainder of the year, members of the Special Committee met repeatedly with members of the administration and selected senate committee chairs to draft a review process.
A draft was finally completed in Spring Quarter. The faculty and administration were notified
of the completed draft by Provost John Simpson and a copy of the draft placed on the Academic Human Resources web site on July 25, 2001 (http://www2.ucsc.edu/ahr/equity.htm). Faculty were invited to send comments about the draft process to either Special Committee Chair, M. Silver or Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor B. Brogan. During the Fall Quarter, 2001, the Special Committee plans to sponsor a special senate workshop to discuss the proposed review process.
Respectfully submitted,
SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON MERIT EQUITY REVIEW
