Graduate Council Report to the Senate

Graduate Assessment Policy Review and Referral of the Resolution on the Divisional Grading System (SCP 1256) from the

December 3, 1999 Special Academic Senate Meeting

To the Academic Senate, Santa Cruz Division:

At its meeting of January 27th, 2000, the Graduate Council unanimously passed the following statement for information to the Academic Senate at its February 23, 2000 meeting.

As part of the larger campus discussion of how student performance should be evaluated, the Graduate Council has had extensive discussion of the possibility of changing the assessment system used for graduate student course work at UCSC. The Graduate Council’s conclusion is that there is no reason at this time to make substantive changes in the assessment system for graduate students.

The Graduate Council stands ready to make such changes in the wording of existing regulations as may become necessary if changes are introduced in the assessment system used for undergraduates. The Graduate Council may also make technical adjustments in present wording to make regulations consistent.

Respectfully submitted,

GRADUATE COUNCIL
Frank Bridges, ex officio
