Proposed Change to Santa Cruz Bylaw 4.2
Term of the Senate Vice Chair
TO: The Academic Senate, Santa Cruz Division
The Committee on Committees after review by the Committee on Rules, Jurisdiction and Election moves the following amendment to length of the term of the Vice Chair
Background and Rationale
By having the Vice-Chair of the Senate serve ex-officio on the Committee on Planning and Budget beginning Fall 2001 (passed by the Senate Fall 2000), and by making the Vice-Chair's term a one year commitment (rather than two with the presumption of succeeding to the Chair, as is now the case), COC hopes to create a pool of experienced Senate leaders who can be tapped in the future for Senate leadership, including as Chair of the Senate.
This legislation is to take effect September 1, 2001.

4.2 Vice Chair. A Vice Chair of the Santa Cruz Division is appointed by the Committee on Committees for a term of two years, the term to coincide with that of the Chair, and serves as a Divisional Representative to the Assembly of the Academic Senate. Should the office become vacant before the completion of a term, the Committee on Committees shall appoint a Vice Chair to fill the remainder of the term. The Vice Chair carries out all of the duties of the Chair in the absence or incapacity of the Chair, or such duties as are delegated by the Chair. |
