COMMITTEE ON FACULTY WELFARE
Resolution on Parking
To: The Academic Senate, Santa Cruz Division:
Whereas, Transportation and parking are important aspects of the conditions of employment for all employees, including Senate faculty, at UCSC; and
Whereas, Parking fees have been rapidly escalating and may escalate further; and
Whereas, the UC Faculty Welfare and the UC Academic Council approved a set of parking principles which UCSC Committee on Faculty Welfare sees as definitive for our campus on issues such as replacement costs of parking spaces taken over for construction of new buildings; and
Whereas, There is some difference of opinion between the UCSC administration and the UCSC Senate Committee on Faculty Welfare concerning the legitimacy of some of the costs that have caused parking fees to escalate and that may contribute to large increases in the future.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
1) That the Senate urges the administration to formalize, at the earliest possible time, the process of Senate consultation at the stage of developing policy as well as at the phases of implementing policy in all matters related to parking on campus, transportation to campus, and transportation around campus; and
2) That the Senate urges the administration to take into consideration the costs of replacing lost parking spaces in decisions about the siting of new construction and to do whatever it can to find replacement funds for parking spaces lost to new buildings.
Respectfully Submitted,
COMMITTEE ON FACULTY WELFARE
